The parents of St. Andrew School are hosted a Scholastic Book Fair during Catholic Education Week. To kick start the week students were encouraged to get dressed in Hawaiian gear and the best dressed from each class won $10. of free books. Read more...
The students and staff at St. Andrew School "Walked in the Light of Christ" around their school to celebrate the opening of Catholic Education Week on Monday May 7th. The school community walked while listening to the songs Children of God by C. Walker and Walk in the Light by C. Landry. The school community has planned many activtiies to celebrate this special week. Parents have already been into the school to picnic with the child(ren) and will continue to visit the school throughout the week. Read more...
On May 2nd St. Andrew School welcomed several of the children registered for JK in September to an afternoon of activities to Welcome them to Kindergarten. The classroom teacher, her student teacher and several community partners ( Minnow Lake Nursery School, Children Treatment Centre, Best Start Hub, Sudbury Public Health Unit) organized various activities for the parents and children to participate in and to learn various ways to help prepare their child for kindergarten. The Principal Melody Henry spoke of the great partnership that the Sudbury Catholic School Board has with the Learning Partnership who provide bags filled with books, and colouring and cutting tools for home use. Representatives of the Greater Sudbury Police Service, area school boards and local agencies signed a Community Threat Assessment Protocol on March 27, 2012, pledging to work together to ensure schools remain safe for students and staff. The Community Threat Assessment Protocol is a collaborative response to student behaviour that may pose a risk to other students, staff and members of the community. Under the initiative, school boards, police and community partners will share information, advice and support. Plans will be developed to minimize risk. Read more...
Gr.2/3 teacher, Mrs. Onucky-Vervega prepares her Gr.3 student Ryan Vendette for Easter. Each year, the students participate in a traditional Easter art activity. All students deocrate egg cartons. Recently, students at St Andrew had the pleasure of enjoying a movie at Silver City: The Lorax. The Lorax is a children's book written by Dr. Seuss and first published in 1971. It chronicles the plight of the environment. Read more...
